Reports To: Campus Security Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Status: 12-Month Contract

Salary: Based on Experience and Degree, $18.72 - $22.50

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma, (CLEET) Armed Security Guard Certification/License
  • Experience: Preferred 5 years as a Certified Law Enforcement Officer, Security Officer or Military Police
  • Skills: Ability to read/interpret documents such as school policies, city ordinances, district procedures, witness statements, and manuals/handbooks; ability to write detailed, routine reports/correspondence; human interaction and communication; health and physical requirements; calm and composed demeanor in intense situations are required in safeguarding the district/assigned site.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Adheres to and follows Broken Arrow Public Schools Policies and Regulations and any procedures and/or policies in conjunction with partnering law enforcement agencies.
  • Assists administration in the enforcement of school safety rules, regulations and policies; assists faculty and staff in resolving complaints as needed.
  • Attends and completes assigned in-service training programs and maintains CLEET certification.
  • Maintains a visible presence during scheduled duty time in areas assigned by administration and in areas with a heavy concentration of students.
  • Performs duties to enhance site security by daily securing exterior doors as required after school day begins, supervising halls between classes in locations assigned by administrator, monitoring the parking lot and front entrance when not involved in other security duties as assigned by administrator.
  • Patrols property on foot and/or vehicle; provides protective escorts; responds to calls for assistance.
  • Implements district emergency action procedures when appropriate.
  • If needed, serves as liaison between school officials and local law enforcement agencies.
  • Documents and files reports regarding safety and security issues as needed.
  • Inspects parcels, packages and boxes when required.
  • Physically controls combative students, employees, visitors and/or criminal suspects as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and staff.
  • Provides motorist assistance within constraints of regularly assigned duties and without jeopardizing the safety and security of the building or its inhabitants.
  • Maintains certification and mandatory professional development hours as mandated by the state and/or district.
  • Maintains and inventories district equipment at their respected school sites and will only use district equipment during the performance of their job.
  • Prepared to work evenings, weekends, or special school events upon request.
  • Performs such other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

  • Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Attendance Statement:

Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.

Environmental Conditions:

This position will be performed in both inside and outside conditions. The noise level will range from quiet to loud. The job will be performed in areas of heavy concentration of people as well as in areas with few physical obstacles.

Physical Standards:

Tools/Equipment Used: district vehicle, firearms, security cameras, handcuffs, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.

Posture: prolonged sitting and standing.

Motion: strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse, prolonged driving.

Lifting: moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds) 10-50 pounds frequently; 50-100 pounds occasionally.

Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements; may be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; ability to restrain resistant persons; ability to remove resistant persons with violent behavior.

Mental Demands: maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; ability to work shifts including rotating shifts/days off; may be on call 24 hours per day. Ability to react quickly with no advance warning to secure student safety and/or to assist with emergency situations. The intervention and/or physical restraint of students/adults weighing in excess of 100 pounds is required.
