Seeking an ASSISTANT PROSECUTOR

General Summary: An Assistant Prosecutor will assist in carrying out any function, duty or responsibility delegated to them and will assist in the prosecution of criminal, juvenile and elder cases and matters on behalf of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Selected candidate will report to the Chief Prosecutor (Family Division).

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing cases assigned to the Family Division for the Attorney General's Office.
  • Responsible for prosecutions of all juvenile delinquent matters: reviews police reports and communicates effectively with law enforcement, victims, witnesses, and Tribal Juvenile Justice caseworkers to make appropriate charging decisions.
  • Reviewing 36-hour reports for child abuse/neglect cases and communicates effectively with Child Protective Service Investigators, case workers, victims, and witnesses to make appropriate filing decisions for child deprived cases.
  • Responsible for review and prosecution of all Adult Protective Services (APS) reports and cases, as well as necessary APS guardianships.
  • Work with the Nation's Children and Family Services Administration, Tribal Juvenile Justice, and Adult Protective Services and provide legal advice as needed.
  • Interact routinely with caseworkers, supervisors, program directors, and cabinet members on case staffings, updates, and court preparation.
  • Have a "teamwork" approach to working with other attorneys and legal clerks in the Family Division.
  • Be able to work and communicate with other Federal, State and local agencies dealing with child and elder abuse/neglect cases.
  • Attend trials and court proceedings as necessary for the Family Division.
  • Prepare, organize, and record all official/legal documents required for court and the file.
  • Be able to prepare or assist in drafting updated code revisions for the Family Division.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Attorney General.

Minimum Requirements:

Must be a graduate of an accredited law school, knowledgeable and/or have experience of Federal Indian law.

Preferred Requirements:

Must be able to communicate effectively with the public and handle workload under pressure situations. Must be able to work with confidential material.

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in any state and must be in good standing with that jurisdiction.
  • Must be willing to become licensed to practice law in Oklahoma.
  • Must be a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Bar Association in good standing or be eligible to become a member.
