Seeking a DIRECTOR
General Summary: Under the direction of the Commissioner / Deputy Commissioner of Public
Safety, the Director of Detention Services serves as the executive administrator and chief authority over detention operations for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Department of Public Safety. The position is responsible for the leadership, administration, and oversight of all detention-related functions, including jail operations, inmate management, compliance with applicable laws and standards, and supervision of sworn and civilian detention personnel.
The Director of Detention Services ensures the safe, secure, and lawful operation of detention facilities within the Nation's jurisdiction, including Indian Country as defined in
18 U.S.C. ยง 1151, while maintaining compliance with tribal law, federal and state regulations, and professional detention standards.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience: Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in detention, corrections, law enforcement, or a related criminal justice field, including significant supervisory or administrative leadership experience.
Special Skills:
Demonstrated ability to provide executive leadership and administrative oversight of detention or correctional operations.
Working knowledge of detention standards, inmate rights, and facility security requirements.
Ability to develop, implement, and enforce detention policies and procedures.
Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills in high-risk environments.
Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license.
Preferred Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Corrections, Public Administration, or a related field.
Experience: Experience managing detention facilities within a tribal, governmental, or multi-jurisdictional environment.
Knowledge of PREA standards, accreditation principles, or detention compliance frameworks.
Experience managing budgets, contracts, or grant-funded detention programs.
Advanced skills in incident management, internal investigations, and corrective action process.
